AFFORDABLE SOLUTION

A common problem that appears during the construction of a private house, usually, can be put into one question - what is better, a house made out of wood or stone? There is no straightforward answer to this question.


The choice of material depends on many factors: quality characteristics, appearance, and

of course, the price. The chart placed below will help in understanding the advantages and disadvantages of two types of

housing construction:

The analysis of mentioned factors shows that the wooden houses have many advantages over stone ones - the cost is lower, construction speed is higher, additional finishing materials are not required, moreover, wooden houses are sufficiently comfortable and environmentally friendly.

ПCurrently glued laminated timber considered to be the most modern type of wooden building material. It doesn’t have many disadvantages typical for solid wood: it experiences moderate shrinkage, is significantly more resistant to fire, biological and environmental degradation. Glued laminated timber is also characterized by lower thermal conductivity. Moreover, its density is 2.5 times higher than that of whole wood of normal moisture.

The price difference

The price difference between stone, rounded log and glued timber is very noticeable. When choosing to use stone for house building, you will face additional costs. High-quality brick is not cheap and its price several times higher than the price of a rounded log or glued timber. Besides, when building a stone house, it is necessary to place a deep foundation with high bearing capacity, because the weight of the brick implies the need of an extra firm foundation. High thermal conductivity is the reason for the construction of thick walls. This means, that if you live in such climate condition, where cold and high humid weather prevails at least 6 months a year, it is not enough to lay 1-brick thick outer walls, it is necessary to carry out extra finishing works. Brick requires architectural cladding and exterior works. The exception would be rustic-looking buildings in an industrial style, where certain sections of the stonework can remain unprocessed. Brick has another drawback - increased susceptibility to humid. A long break in domestic heating will require significant efforts to restore the microclimate on the premises. Therefore, brick houses are not recommended as a place of temporary accommodation. Long-term non-use leads to raising humidity level, causing a problem in heating the house afterward.
Thus, by many parameters, modern wooden houses are ahead of brick ones. Nowadays, it is not easy to maintain good health. For that reason, the impact of the environment on us and our loved ones come to the fore, alongside the price, visual aesthetics, and reliability.
